Published 07/18/2018

Question:

Hi, I pull a 14,000 pound fifth wheel trailer, is there a way of getting better gas mileage, can I bypass the cat, right now I am getting about 12 miles a gallon of diesel pulling, and about 18 not pulling

For your 2007 Chevy Silverado 2500 with 6.6L Diesel, the best way to increase your towing and non-towing fuel mileage is to use the Superchips Flashpaq F5 Performance Tuner - GM - Gas/Diesel # SU2845. Under the performance settings this can give you an increase in up to 82 horsepower and up to 117.3 foot lbs torque. This also has an economy setting and a towing setting to help you out. The Edge # EP26040 is basically the same tuner with the same outputs.

I cannot recommend bypassing your catalytic converter, but another way to increase your horsepower and torque but up to 17 additional horsepower and up to 20 foot lbs torque is to use the Airaid MXP Cold Air Intake System with SynthaMax Dry Filter - Stage 2 - Closed - Blue # AR203-219.
