How to Reduce Wobble of a Kuat Bike Rack in a TorkLift EcoHitch Receiver

Question:

I have a hidden hitch installed on my subaru crosstrek, I recently purchased a new Kuat bike rack and I am experience a lot of wobble in the connection between the rack and the receiver. I have a 2 inch hitch and the rack has an adapter from the 1.25 size to fit this but there is still a lot of play. Because the hidden hitch is recessed and the plastic bumper does not leave additional space I cannot use a standard U shaped hitch stabilizer. Any suggestions for how I can make this more stable?

I am not sure which Kuat bike rack you are using with your TorkLift EcoHitch but I do know that all the Kuat bike racks come with some sort of anti-wobble device. Some of them have a threaded hitch pin like part # KU74FR while others have the system built-in to the bike rack and you tighten it with a knob like part # BA22B.

Either way, the first step to helping with that wobble is making sure that you have the device tightened properly. If you didn't tighten the threaded hitch pin or the hand knob (whichever you have) then that would explain the wobble that you are experiencing.

I have attached some test course videos of the bike racks I mentioned above so you can see how the bike rack should be reacting wether you have the threaded pin or the knob system.

@StephanieC Thanks for reaching out! If you've tightened the anti-rattle system as much as you can then another thing to do is loosen it a little bit and shift the bike rack around some while tightening it back down. Sometimes the shank of the bike rack will sit in the receiver in a way that prevents the anti-rattle device from really securing the bike rack properly. Let me know if you're still having issues!
