can i use a seal #17146 skf on my box trailer with a old seal #171255 there was a round spring that came out when i removed the inner seal.The new seal came without the spring.

You will want to match up the old seal with the number stamped on the seal. Each seal number is an indication of a different size seal.
The correct # 171255 seal that you will need is Grease Seal - Double Lip, part # 58846. This seal includes the spring that you referred to.
