Question:

Im in the market for a equalizer hitch but not sure what one I need I have a tahoe and a very large pop up camper. The camper fully loaded is around4600 lbs and the gear in the back of my tahoe is a couple coolers wood kids bike ECT. I was thinking the 1k/10k equalizer brand hitch would that work for me?

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

If a trailer that weighs 4,600 lbs fully loaded it's most likely going to have a loaded tongue weight of between 460 and 645 lbs. What's odd about the Equal-i-Zer systems is that they don't have a great solution for tongue weights around 600 lb as they don't have a lot of overlap in that range. They offer the # EQ37100ET which has a range of 600-1,000 lbs and the part # EQ37061ET which has a range of 200-600 lb so it would be hard to recommend either without knowing for sure what your loaded tongue weight is going to be.

The Reese Strait-Line System part # RP66083 though has a range of 400-800 lb which would be a better fit for what you'd need most likely. It also features the best sway control around which will fight to stop sway before it starts.

For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
