Can I Relocate The Spring Seats On Axle To Where Spring Leafs Are Located To Widen Trailer

Question:

I have a 4x8 utility trailer that I want to widen but the tires are in the way to make completely flat. Can I place the 72inch wide axle and relocate the spring perches on the axle to where the leafs are already located. I dont carry heavy loads, max is 1200 pounds.

When positioning a 2000 pound trailer axle like # T20BTR-7258, it is recommended that the hub face to spring seat measurement falls between 5.75" to 7.625" on each side. (11.50" to 15.25" total on both sides). (see picture). As long as your axle is within those parameters you will still be able to utilize all 2000lbs weight capacity of the axle. If you go beyond those measurements you could jeopardize the integrity of the axle.
