Recommended Trailer Jack With 1,500 lb Capacity and Retracted Height of 12-3/4 Inches

Published 04/04/2018

Question:

I measured my trailer jack again and I was incorrect on the dimension from center of jack to front of jack when raised actually 7. I have attached some pictures with measurements. Question can a jack be taken apart, and can the outer tube be cut off for more clearance? I have a wheel but would have to cut off the outer tube so I could lower the jack for shorter trailer hitches. My objective is to add a wheel to my existing jack, or replace the complete jack w/wheel. Do you have a jack that will work in my application?

The Fulton Snap-Ring Swivel Marine Jack with Fixed Length - 400 lbs # F1410050149 has a fixed height of 14-1/2 inches. We don't have a fixed height option for a 1,500 lb jack, so I recommend the Fulton Bolt-Thru Swivel Marine Jack - Bolt On # FXP15L which is shorter at the retracted height of 12-3/4 inches but also extends to 24-3/4 inches. I've attached a couple videos to assist.

You can't just cut off the outer tube on a jack as that will effect the gearing, lift, and would also void the manufacturer's warranty. For a similar jack to what you have, I recommend the Pro Series Round, Snap-Ring Swivel Jack - Weld On - Topwind - 10" Lift - 2,000 lbs # PS1401140303. If you are interested in a sidewind jack, then I recommend the Round Snap Ring Swivel Jack w/ Footplate - Weld On - Sidewind - 10-1/2" Travel - 2,000 lbs # TJB-2001S-B. If you wanted to add a wheel, you would need to cut the inside tube at the footplate (which will void your warranty but won't effect jack function if done low enough), drill a hole, and then use a caster like # PS1400750340. You will need to account for about 7-1/4 inches more room for the wheel which you'd be right at the brink of with the measurements you gave if you use the Pro Series Jack.
