Factory Brake Controller on 2017 Ford F-450 with Dexter Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator

Question:
I have a new F450 with a factory brake control and as I hook up to my trailer that has a Dexter e/h 1000 the unit surges on and off with nothing being pressed or applied at all. All lights work correctly and the brakes do work when the lever is moved on the controller. Any help would be appreciated.

The integrated brake controller in your 2017 Ford F-450 is compatible with electric over hydraulic trailer brakes. Make sure you have the controller set for EOH brakes because it has an option for electric brakes and an option for EOH brakes.
If you already have it set for EOH it could be that it's not compatible with the Dexter actuator. The controller isn't compatible with all actuators so this could be your issue. When an integrated controller isn't compatible with EOH brakes you can install an adapter on the trailer to solve the issue. This may be what you need. We don't carry such an adapter for Dexter actuators but we've heard that the HydraStar adapter, part # HBA-CAM, works with the Dexter actuators. I can't guarantee this however since we haven't tried it ourselves.
