Question:
Can this be used for cars with a hatchback. The kayak is resting in the car out on to this product. If so all I have to do is remove this extender so when I’m driving it won’t interfere with my EVmiles. Im getting older and it would eliminate having to wrangle it up on the roof of my car. Is it possible?

The Yakima LongArm # Y01149 is designed to fit a 2 inch trailer hitch but the trailer hitches available for your 2017 Chevy Volt are all Class I, 1-1/4 inch hitches. But I do have another possible option for you.
If your Volt already has a roof rack then you could potentially use the Malone DownLoader kayak carrier # MPG114MD with the Telos Load Assist # MPG351XL which will help you to load the kayak easier. I would just need more information about your roof rack if equipped such as the brand, style or the width and height measurements of the crossbars.
If your Volt does not have a roof rack you could add one using # INB127 for the bars, # INSUT for the fit kit, and # INK688.
