Are Weigh Safe Weight Distribution System Shanks Universal?

Question:

Is there an extended shaft shank 8” that will allow the tailgate to while engaged? Or will this product work with any extended shank?

Hey William! The answer to both your questions is no sadly. The Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution Hitches like the item # WS84RR you were looking at use their own specific shank that is not universal. On top of that they do not have any extended shanks to help you with lowering your tailgate.

I'd like to steer you away from a Weigh Safe set up towards a Equalizer or Fastway system but I am going to need to know how much your trailer weighs. If you could email me directly or comment below what your trailer's total capacity is when fully loaded, I would be happy to make a recommendation.

Jerred I currently have the Fastway e2, and I don’t love it. It’s ok - which is why I’m looking for something better. Trailer weighs 9,500 lbs loaded. Tongue weight is usually around 1,400.

@William Have you taken a look at the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control? For your set up you would need the item # BXW1500. This is a different style than your Fastway e2 and uses chain hangers to secure the trunnion bars instead of brackets. These systems are easier to set up, they're quieter, and have more adjustability built into them.

@JerredH I had not looked at the Blue Ox. I just didn’t know whether or not the chains work as well as the bars. What about the B&W (BW78FR)? Would this not be a nice upgrade?

@WilliamB The B&W Continuum item # BW78FR would definitely be a solid upgrade. It's got a fully contained hydraulic system that is easy to set up and adjust. The big advantage of this system is how quiet it is.
