Question:
Does this come in aluminum? Also, we have a homemade slide-in and keep the tailgate closed when driving. Would it be appropriate to attach the mounting bracket on the top of the tailgate?

We do have the Brophy Camper Scissor Steps # SS03 in aluminum. This is found on our site as part # AS03. Please note that the aluminum version has a weight capacity of 250 lbs as opposed to the 300 lbs of capacity that the steel version has.
If you would like to add some more stability to these steps then the handrail # AHR3 can be used.
The manufacturer specifically states that these steps should not be mounted permanently. You really should remove them before you start traveling.
