Question:
The arm that you pull to unlock the hitch isnt locking into place and I cant tell why. I also read that the silver guides should should be loosened before you land the trailer and tightened after the trailer is landed, is this correct.

The silver capture plates on the Demco Hijacker Autoslide Hitch # DM8550034 should be adjusted after you hitch the trailer. You want to push the capture plates against both sides of the pin box then finger-tighten the inside jam nuts against the capture plate mount. Then tighten the outside jam nuts against the thick mounting plate. This is covered on page 3 of the instructions, which are linked for you.
The procedure to uncouple the king pin jaws appear on page 7. Demco notes in step 5 to install the safety pin if the handle will not stay in the out position.
The manual also covers the important routine maintenance to keep the hitch in safe working order.
