Published 04/12/2018

Question:

I previously asked about axles on a Cameo. I am considering purchasing a Lifestyle 36 FW. MFR out of business. When they were making Lifestyle Mfr offered am 8,000 # axel option with 17.5inch wheels. What do you think abut putting those axels on the trailer now with Discs/

Your 2010 Cameo by Carriage can have the axles upgraded and disc brakes added, but you would need to contact the manufacturer to ensure your capacity would be increased because it will be based on the weakest component. We don't carry any disc brake assemblies for the 9K axles, but we do have the 8k and 10K options. I've attached an article to assist with upgrading to EOH disc brakes.

My recommendation is to keep your current Dexter axles and add the Dexter Disc Brake Assembly - 12-1/4" Hub/Rotor - Grease - 8 on 6-1/2 - E-Coat - 8,000 lbs # K71-635-399-90 to each hub and then use the HydraStar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator Kit for Disc Brakes - 1,600 psi # HBA16-252-82 with a brake controller that is compatible like the Prodigy P3 # 90195.

Taking the axles from the Lifestyle 36 FW trailer will work. I looked up the axles online and they are the Dexter Nev-R-Lube Axles with the 50 mm bearings. This means they use these specific non-tapered bearings that are well made that don't require the same maintenance and don't utilize races. I've attached an article to assist. For the disc brakes, you would need the kit # K71-646-2-91 for each axle which includes everything needed for those axles. You will still utilize the same disc brake actuator for this application. Let me know if you have any further questions.
