The MaxxAir MaxxFan Trailer Roof Vent # MA00-06200K extend 9-5/16" above the roof when it is opened and 5" when it is closed. This is actually on par (or slightly under) with most other roof vent styles.
Since this is a manual lift you can lift it about an inch to where it rarely touches your rack if need be. One of the great things about this vent is that it operates as a ceiling fan as well. Even with the lid closed the fan can still operate so that you can be circulating the air inside your trailer.
