Yes, the Curt hitch # C12270 will fit your 2001 Subaru Legacy Wagon, we also have the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, # 36284 to consider. I have included a link to the installation instructions along with a video showing a typical installation on a similar vehicle for both of these hitches. These will help you decide between these nearly identical hitches.
If you plan on doing some towing with the hitch, the recommended ball mount is # 36061, and it should be used in the rise position only. For a pin and clip, use # PC2. For a ball, you can use # 19256 (1-7/8 inch diameter) or # 19258 (2 inch diameter). For trailer wiring, use # C59496. I have included a link to the installation details and a video showing a typical installation for you to view.
