I looked in the owner's manual and flat towing is fine unless you have the Quadra-Trac I, 4x4 package. There are also specific towing instructions in the owner's manual so make sure to review it. To flat tow your 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, you will need base plates, a tow bar, safety cables, wiring, a braking system, and maybe a high-low hitch adapter.

For base plates, I recommend the Roadmaster XL Base Plate Kit, Item # 1425-1, because it is designed for your vehicle. It also has twistlock brackets that are virtually invisible and can be removed. The Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain Tow Bar, Item # RM-522, is a great choice that fits the Roadmaster XL Base Plate. Durable safety cables are the Roadmaster Coiled Safety Cables, Item # RM-643.

For lighting, I recommend the Roadmaster Diode Wiring Kit, Item # RM-15267, that will use your vehicle's tail lights and also includes 7-wire to 6-wire coiled electrical cord. You will also need a brake relay light like Item # RM-88400 that will work with the supplemental braking system.  If you want to keep your lights separate then you will also need a wiring converter like Item # 118158 and 2 additional diodes like Item # RM-792.

A high-low hitch adapter may also be needed to keep your tow bar level while flat towing the Jeep. A "safe zone" of 3 inches above or 3 inches below level must be maintained while towing a vehicle. High-low adapters provide necessary rise or drop to get into the "safe zone". I have attached a link to our available selections.

Finally, most states require a supplemental braking system for flat towed vehicles and I recommend the Stay-In-Play Braking System, Item # SM99251. It is a great proportional braking system that has a convenient one time set-up.

I have attached additional information and videos for you to checkout to help you with your towing project.
