Solution for Needing New Power Cables for Brake Buddy 3

Updated 07/16/2026 | Published 12/11/2024

Question:

I have the Brake Buddy 3 Portable Flat Tow Brake System - Proportional Part Number: HM39524. The connectors, both to my truck and to the braking system are lose and I need to do a lot of wiggling to make a connection. At times, it will disconnect while towing, setting off my dash alert system. What can I do to fix this? I currently try bungies that help sometimes or a base plate to secure the connector to the truck. I bought the system in early 2019 I believe and flat tow my 2012 Toyota 4Runnermodified drive shaft.

Hey Ralph, sounds like its time for a new power cord for your Brake Buddy. For that we have the part # HM39341.

Hey Ralph, did the new power cord fix the loose connection issue with your Brake Buddy system? Knowing how it worked could help others dealing with the same problem.

@JamesonC the ground connector is split so that you can spread it. Stick a thin knife or something in there slightly which will cause the connectors to expand and then that will tighten the connection. Frustrating when this occurs but an easy fix. Just don’t press too hard or you’ll break the connector
