Recommendation For Keeping Shackles From Flipping Up On Uneven Terrain
Updated 02/02/2018 | Published 01/31/2018 >
Question:
Will longer hangers prevent the shackles from flipping up when going over uneven terrain?

Expert Reply:
Longer hangers will not prevent the shackles from flipping. If this has always happened or if the springs are new then they are too short. If it happens only when your trailer is empty then not enough weight/tension to keep shackles in place so they flip. This happens normally when the trailer is unloaded.
If this is a new/recent occurrence then something-shackle straps, equalizer holes, etc- has worn out and needs to replaced. If it's a shackle issue, you will need to measure from center of hole to center of hole to get the right length. For example, a replacement shackle that is 3-1/2 inches long would be the TruRyde Shackle Strap, Item # TRSL350.
If you need replacement parts, send me your dimensions and I will make a specific recommendation. I am attaching some FAQ article for you to check out that should help.
