There are a number of high-quality weight distribution hitches that will work with a 400 lb tongue weight such as the Equal-i-zer # EQ37060ET, which is rated for total tongue weights between 300 and 600 lbs. However, in order to choose the best weight distribution system, you will first need to know your total tongue weight (TTW), which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to go trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your 2012 GMC Sierra.
To determine your trailer's loaded tongue weight, you can use a scale such as the etrailer # e99044 or by using one of the methods outlined in the help article on determining tongue weight I've linked for you. From there, simply add on the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your vehicle and you'll have your TTW. The ideal system would be one in which your TTW would fall somewhere in the middle of the weight distribution system's tongue weight capacity.
Based on a GTW of 4,000 lbs and dry tongue weight of 400 lbs it is reasonable to assume you will have a TTW of somewhere around 500 to 550 lbs. If that is right I strongly recommend the Reese Strait-Line # RP66083, which is for total tongue weights between 400 lbs and 800 lbs. The Strait-Line, which will require either 2" hitch ball # A-90 or 2-5/16" hitch ball # 19286, uses a unique dual-cam system to prevent trailer sway as well as a serrated washer system which allows for you to position the unit's head easier than the traditional method of piling washers on.
I've added a link to a video review of the Strait-Line system for you to take a look at, as well as a link to a each of our weight distribution systems that are rated for TTW of 500 lbs so you can take a look at the available options.
