Using a Generator on a GearDeck 17

Question:
This cargo box is a great idea but my concern is the exhaust location of the generator, which gets extremely hot. I would think that the box which is made of plastic would/could burn very easily. The location of exhaust system on most generators are either on the sides or the back/rear. So even when the cargo box is opened, the sides of the back half of the box could burn as well as impede the flow of the exhaust if the exhaust is located on the right or left side. And as far as those exhaust systems located in the back or rear would butt up directly with the rear half of the cargo box, burn the box and impede the exhaust flow. How can this possible work without burning or causing damage to the box as well as preventing adequate exhaust flow when buying it for generator use???

The Gear Deck 17, part # H00604 is able to carry a generator, however, it is not recommended to run the generator with the fully removable lid installed. Our recommended use is to completely remove the lid and unpack the carrier and then use the telescoping base to slide the generator away from your vehicle prior to use.
If your generator does have exhaust that points downward, I recommend removing the generator from the carrier prior to use.
If you are looking to use the generator without unloading it, and still want an enclosed carrier, I recommend the CarPod Walled cargo carrier, part # m2205-01-02. This is a mesh enclosed carrier that can be used without its bag to give a similar effect to the GearDeck, however, won't be able to slide away from the vehicle.
I've included video reviews of both of these racks so you can get an idea of their features and performance, and make the best pick for your needs.
