Question:
Hello! I have a 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe with a 2inch hitch receiver. I still need to purchase the wiring, the ball mount, and ball lock. I will be towing a trailer weighing about 1000 pounds. I was looking at a draw-tite ball mount and ball, but I was wondering if anyone had specific suggestions on which to buy before I make the plunge? Thanks!

We can help you with trailer wiring, a ball mount and hitch ball, and a lock to secure that ball mount in the 2-inch hitch on your 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe.
If the trailer has only lights, but not electric brakes, you will need only a 4-pole type wiring harness. I suggest the Tekonsha # 118415 since we find their electrical products to be very reliable. This installs quite simply, by plugging in at the connectors behind your tail lights. At only 1000-lbs it is likely the trailer does NOT have brakes; if is uses a flat connector like the one on the harness then it does NOT have electric brakes and you're all set for wiring.
Ball mounts are chosen based on the heights of the hitch tube and the trailer coupler. It is simple to measure to get the right one. The linked article shows how. A popular choice is the Curt # C45036 which has a 2-inch hitch ball. Check the coupler on the trailer for an indication of what ball size it requires. The right ball mounts keeps your trailer level when hitched and this means it will tow better. For a lock to secure the ball mount you can use # e98880.
You may also want to get some towing mirrors like # KS3990 to give you a better view of the trailer and motorists behind you. These simply clip on your Santa Fe's mirrors.
