Expert Reply:
I checked with Trudyde, and I was able to find out that the bar stock material used to make the spindle is hot rolled SAE 1045 steel, which allows the spindle to harden to an extent. The spindle needs to retain a slight amount of flex to retain its durability when a trailer goes over a bump or through a hole in the road.
