Updated 10/31/2017 | Published 10/30/2017

Question:

How do I figure out how much of a drop I need from my motor home to my cargo trailer, right now I dont have any but my equalizer bars are to tight causing the holds on the trailer to bend and break?

When using a weight distribution system like the Equal-I-zer # EQ37100ET between a taller motor home and a trailer you may need a shank with more drop than usual. For instance the replacement shank # EQ90-02-4400 provides for up to 9-inches of drop and it works for systems rated for up to 1400-lbs of trailer tongue weight.

Shanks are standardized and interchangeable between brands so if you need even more drop we offer parts like Curt # C17125 that provides over 15-inches of drop with a trunnion bar head.

You can refer to the linked article for help in determining which shank will work best for you.

Be sure to set-up your WD system according to the manufacturer instructions to ensure correct and safe operation.
