What is the best way to cut this type of plastic down to size so that my roof vent is flush with my tear roof?

When you need to trim a roof vent's plastic garnish trim ring like part # FVK1060-81 it is best to do so indoors so that the plastic is at room temperature. This will reduce its brittleness and chance of cracking or shattering. The warmer the plastic material is the easier it will be to trim it cleanly.

A set of sharp tin snips like # PT79ZR is an ideal tool for the job since they provide safety and control, as compared to a utility knife. One of those will work too but there is greater safety with the tin snips so I recommend this method.

We offer these garnish trim rings in various leg depths, from 1-1/8-inch # VA0445-25 to 6-inch leg garnish. One of these may fit well without need for trimming.
