Review of the Yakima HoldUp Plus 2 2-Bike Add-On Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Yakama Plus 2 two bike add on for Yakama hold up. Part number Y02446. Upgrade your Yakama Hold Up to a four bike rack with this two bike add on. It maintains all the same features as the original hold up including it's ability to tilt away with all four bikes loaded. It's not bad idea to get an extra set of hands with four bikes. We'll have somebody pull out on that pin, and then somebody to lower it down. Then as you can see, we've got plenty of room to remove any cargo, gear, groceries, anything we might have with us on our trip.

You'll need that second set of hands when putting it back into the platform position. Raise it up until it snaps in. I've gone ahead and removed the bikes so we can go over some additional features. It's going to add about 25 inches to your hold up. Because of the added length Yakama has included some safety feature. We have a red flag here to increase visibility and then two battery operated reflectors to increase visibility at night.

The lights operate with two AAA batteries which are not included. The rack still folds up against our vehicle for compact storage. As you can see, the glad will not be an issue with most vehicles. It still maintains the 60 pound per bike weight capacity, though you should not exceed 200 pounds total. It features a limited lifetime warranty. Now that we've gotten all of the features I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed. I've already got my Yakama Hold Up installed into my receiver.

Now let's get the two bike add-on installed. First thing we'll do is we'll remove our bottle opener end cap. It's pretty simple. There's a little tab up underneath here. We can just press in and then just work it's way out.

Just like that. Now you can see where our add-on's going to go in the hollow tube here. For sliding that add-on in, it's not a bad idea to go ahead and move your front wheel holder and your hook out of the way, that way you've got plenty of room to work with. We'll just pick it up. Not a bad idea to get an extra set of hands if you need to. We'll get those pin holes lined up and then we'll insert our included anti-rattle bolt. That looks pretty good. Make sure your lock washer's on there. We'll thread it through here on the passenger side. We can take our included tool and get that tight. Now this anti-rattle bolt here is going to function the exact same way as the anti-rattle bolt does up near your hitch and shank. It's just going to reduce a lot of play and rattle within our two bike add-on. The add-on secures our bikes the exact same way the hold up does. We also have the integrated cable locks for each bike for a total of four. If you'd like the key them alike you can do so with the Yakama Same Key System, with part number Y07204. With all of our bikes secured, let's go ahead and take it out on our test course and see how it performs. This is our test course. Let's start with the slalom. This shows side to side action such as turning corners or evasive maneuvering. Then onto our alternating speed bumps. This shows twisting action such as hitting curbs, potholes, road debris, or uneven pavement. Last of all the solid speed bumps. This shows up and down action such as driving through a parking lot or parking garage, or driving in and out of a driveway. That's going to complete our look at the Yakama Plus 2 two bike add-on for Yakama Hold Up. Part number Y02446.
