Recommended U-bolts and Brackets for Boat Trailer Bunk Boards

Published 10/06/2017

Question:

Our non-profit Northwest Schooner Society has a work boat that is a 16-foot Starcraft with a 40-HP Honda. We trail it on a 20-foot long EZ Loader trailer built in 1973, with a GVWR of 2250 lbs. I want to convert the trailer from roller to bunk boards. I presently intend to use 10-foot long 2x6 boards for the bunk boards. The trailer does not have cross members for mounting CE10000G-4 brackets. I will need to mount brackets on the lengthwise trailer structures, which are 3 x 3 inch square tubing. What brackets should I use for mounting on these fore/aft trailer beams? I think 9-inch high brackets would be high enough. Thanks!

I recommend the Trailer Square U-Bolts (Qty 2), 3-1/8" x 3" x 7/16" # 7163183UB to go with the CE Smith Bolster and Swivel Bracket Assemblies - Galvanized Steel - 9" - Qty 4 # CE10000G-4. This will allow you to mount them to your 3x3 inch square tube trailer.

For your bunk boards, I recommend the Fulton Marine Grade Carpeting, 12" Wide x 144" Long - Black # FCR8012 to cover your bunk boards. Make sure to use pressure treated lumber and attach with corrosion resistant hardware and stainless steel staples.
