Troubleshooting Trailer Light Error Message on 2015 Chevy Silverado When Towing
Updated 09/25/2017 | Published 09/23/2017 >
Question:
I have a Chevrolet 2015 2500 HD. The Check Trailer wiring light comes on and then says trailer connected and cycles through this many times while towing. I see on your web site that if my trailer has LED lights which it does this might be causing the problem. Part C57003 is reccommended. However, the problem just started and I have towed this trailer several thousand miles with no warning light coming on and off. Any ideas??

As you referenced in your question, an adapter like the Curt # C57003 is sometimes needed on certain vehicles for trailers that have LED lights. Because LED lights draw such little power, an adapter like this one, which essentially simulates more load, is needed.
With that being said, since you stated you are just now having this issue after towing the trailer many times, there might actually be an issue with the trailer wiring. Your 2015 Chevy Silverado may be sensing something off with the trailer wiring, which is what is activating the error lights you are seeing. I recommend checking both the vehicle and trailer side connectors for any dirt or corrosion, simply cleaning out as needed. Also check to make sure the ground wire on the trailer is attached to a clean, bare metal surface. Lastly, you will want to inspect the wiring along the trailer for any damaged or exposed areas.
If you are still not able to resolve the issue, please let me know and I will be happy to look into this further.
