Which Wire is the Ground Wire on Sundowner Horse Trailer 6-Way

Updated 01/18/2021 | Published 05/11/2011

Question:

My trailer doesnt have a white wire for ground. Would it be the black wire or the red wire? Ive got all the other wires in their proper place.

Between those two color choices the black one would most likely be the ground wire. However, if you hook it up with the black as the ground and it does not work I would recommend trying the red wire.

Also, you should trace both of these wires back on the trailer to see where they terminate. The ground wire should be connected to the frame of your trailer. Whichever one connects to the frame is the ground.

The ground wire should be wired to the 12 o clock position terminal on the Pollak 6-Pole, Round Pin, Trailer Wiring Connector, part # PK11604.

I attached a link to an FAQ article on trailer wiring for you to check out also.

I have the same situation. No White wire. but I have another problem that when I plug in the trailer and try to take off, the trailer breaks engage after just a short distance. I have many trailers but this problem on occurs on my 1996 sundowner livestock trailer. Do you have any advice?

Yeah - you need to follow the advise that Jameson gave Jessica. Try tracing the wiring on your livestock trailer to see where it goes and then make sure that it matches your tow vehicle. Livestock trailers tend to have custom wiring so it wouldn't surprise me if your wiring on this trailer doesn't match your other trailers and that's the cause of your problems. You can apply 12V power to each pin to see what function is attached to each pin.

@JonG yep that was it. Red wire was for brakes and Blue for AUX. Must have been made on a Monday or Friday. Thanks for your help.
