Question:

Can you tell me the overall weight of this box? Planning on storing it, and hand tools, on a piece of plywood covering the rear of my 2012 Jeep Wrangler? Would I need a brace underneath the plywood to keep from major sagging?

Your Jeep looks great! It looks like this box will fit perfectly. The overall weight of the DeeZee Storage Box # DZ6535P is 17 lb. and it is made from a sturdy poly-plastic.

It's hard to tell from your photo what thickness of plywood you're using. Depending on the thickness of the plywood and the weight of the tools you'll be carrying, you may need to add some additional support. Plywood strengths vary based on thickness. The most popular thickness in home use is a 3/4" fir plywood. A 12" x 36" piece of 3/4" fir plywood can support up to 50 lb. But, the strength will decline as the thickness is reduced. Hopefully this will help you determine the amount of support you will need.

Popular additions to this box are the Master Lock Padlock # ML1KA and the Motion-Activated LED light strip # A90392 . The simple battery-operated light works great to light up the inside of the box so you can find exactly what you need. It turns on automatically when motion is detected and shuts off one minute after it stops detecting motion. I've attached a video so that you can see the light in action. Happy trails.
