Replacement Reese Goose Box for a Lippert 1621 Pin Box

Question:

The trailer is 12K pounds. Is there an advantage or disadvantage with going with the larger 20K RP94720. I like the idea of overbuilding the connection, but I dont want to end up with airbags that are not optimized for the weight of the trailer.

Using Item Number 2776782 on the tag in your picture I can tell you pin box is a Lippert 1621 series. So the correct 20,000 pound Goose Box is part # RP85FR.

Often times when you get something that's overrated it can backfire on you and cause the ride of the towing set up to be rough and rigid. In this case that would be caused by the pin box being stiffer since it's designed to handle something heavier. There's no way to know for sure if you went with the higher rated Goosebox that this would happen to you but it's certainly possible.
