Expert Reply:
To wire in a truck cap's third brake light to your 2017 Ford F-350 you can access that brake light signal either by splicing into the truck's own 3rd brake light wiring or install a fuse tap # F2526 into the fuse position for the brake light circuit and access the signal that way. Some trucks will actually have a wire for this purpose already run under the frame but its position varies. A local Ford dealer may be able to confirm where the wire is on a 2017 F-350. We have seen some Ford trucks with a green wire for the camper shell lighting.
