Equalizer Weight Distribution Recommendation for Lance Camper Trailer 1685
Updated 05/24/2017 | Published 05/22/2017 >
Question:
need to buy a weight-distributing hitch, either the equalizer EQ37060ET or EQ37101ET. the former is rated for a tongue weight of 600 lbs, the latter to 1000lbs. my trailer lance 1685 has a dry weight of 3650, tongue weight of 345 and GVWR of 5500. will the unit with a 600 tongue weight work? it seems very close to the upper limit of what i might have. also, can the average person install these, or do you recommend taking it to a dealer? thanks,

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.
Realistically your tongue weight is going to be between 550 lbs and 800 lbs so the # EQ37101ET would be the better option as it has a tongue weight range of 600-1,000 lbs.
Install is pretty basic. It's not too difficult at all.
