Question:
I have a 28 ft Catamaran boat on a 2015 Fast Load trailer. Recommended tire size is 225/75 but the tires on the trailer are ST Provider 235/80r16. The tires are the trailer scrub the top of the fender when going over bumps. It also added 3 inches to the overall height of the boat on the trailer and put it over legal road limit of 13 foot 6. What tire would you recommend if i wanted to go back down to a 225/75r16 but keep the load range high?

Helpful Expert Reply:
If your current Provider 235/80R16 Tires, like part # AM34834, are scraping your fenders when you go over bumps, and if they are putting you over a legal load limit of 13 feet 6 inches, then I definitely recommend going with the 225/75 size tires that you said are the recommendation for your boat trailer.
When looking at the different options available for you, it looks like the tire and wheel combination that you will need is actually 225/75R15. The common bolt pattern between size 235/80R16 and 22575/R15 tires is a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern.
If that is the bolt pattern that you have, then I recommend going with the Westlake Tire and Wheel Combination # LHAW124 which uses a Radial tire and has a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern. This combo has a Load Range of E which means that it has a weight capacity of 2,830 lbs at 80 psi. This is a significant difference from the Load Range E 3,520 lbs at 80 psi that the Provider # A16RTK6SM offers, but as long as your boat and boat trailer are not over 5,660 lbs (2,830 x 2 for 2 tires) then the part # LHAW124 will work well for your application. Keep in mind that you will not want to go over the Gross Trailer Weight for your boat trailer.
If your loaded and ready-to-go boat trailer weighs more than what the part # LHAW124 tires can handle then just let me know and I can help you look into different options.
