Brake Controller in a Volvo 780 VNL Semi for Towing Trailer with Electric Brakes

Question:

I have a Volvo 780 Semi and a Fleetwood Pioneer bumper pull Travel trailer with electric brakes. I need to add a brake controller to the mix of items to install. I am looking at adding your Draw-Tite Ultra Frame Service Body Trailer Hitch Receiver - Weld On - Class V - 2 Item # 41990-16 To tow my trailer. It comes in at 6500 lbs fully loaded with water and supplies and it about 800 lbs at the tongue I think but this hitch should more than suffice. My question is what kind of brake converter controller to purchase. Prodigy, or Hayes Air Actuated Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 4 Axles - Proportional Item # HA100400C I just dont know because everybody is willing to give advice but I not sure who really knows. I would say you all are my best bet please help me. I am just a Biology teacher looking to make an excellent vehicle choice.

Since your Volvo 780 semi has air brakes the part # HA100400C that you referenced would work well as it is designed to tap into your air brake system and apply a proportional amount of braking power to your trailer's brakes as it senses coming through your air brake system. If you are looking for the best option this is what I would go with as it's going to give you a way to apply the same amount of pressure as your semi brakes are applying.
