What is the Tongue Weight of the Curt Forged Pintle and Ball # C45920 if Used With Curt # C45910

Updated 03/27/2017 | Published 03/24/2017

Question:

Is the tongue weight the same as/determined by the channel mount C45910 1400 lbs, or is it different? Curts site says its ball capacity ??? is 13,000, the same as Gross Trailer Weight GTW. Doesnt make sense. Thanks

I contacted Curt and they said that the Tongue Weight of the Curt Channel Mount Forged Pintle and Ball # C45920 is the same as the shank that it is being used with. If you are using the Replacement Shank for Curt Channel Style Adjustable Ball Mounts # C45910, then your Tongue Weight will be 1,400 lbs.

Keep in mind that your towing setup is only as strong as the lowest rated item that you are using. If you are using the Curt Channel Style Adjustable Ball Mounts # C45910, which is rated for 14,000 lbs, along with the Curt Pintle and Ball # C45920, which is rated for 13,000 lbs, then your Gross Towing Weight will be 13,000 lbs.

This is the same principle that you will use when purchasing a trailer hitch receiver. If you have a trailer hitch receiver that is rated for 650 lbs tongue weight but your vehicle is only rated for 500 lbs tongue weight, then you are limited to 500 lbs tongue weight.

If you are going to be using this setup I recommend using the Curt Lock Set for Adjustable Channel-Style Mounts # C23556 to secure your pintle and ball to your shank.
