Question:
What is the maximum rise recommended for a class 1 hitch. It also would be about 12inches in length. I am towing a tent trailer with a weight of 1200lbs and it has large tires on it so i would need appox 10 inches of rise

The highest rise on a ball mount we currently offer that is compatible with a Class I trailer hitch is the Curt # C45028, which has a rise of 5-3/8 inches. Higher rise ball mounts are only compatible with higher rated hitches.
If you need this additional rise to tow your trailer level with your 2005 Jeep Liberty, I recommend changing to a Class III trailer hitch like the Draw-Tite Max Frame # 75128. This will give you a tongue weight capacity of 500 pounds and a towing weight capacity of 5,000 pounds. It is custom fit for your Jeep Liberty and no drilling will be required during installation.
The Draw-Tite Ball Mount # 80248 designed for Class III trailer hitches has a rise of 9-3/4 inches, which would be much closer to what you are looking for. This is the highest rise on a ball mount compatible with a Class III trailer hitch that we currently have available.
If you do not already have a 4-way connector needed to power your trailer's signal lights installed, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118524. The T-One connector will plug directly into existing wiring on your 2005 Jeep Liberty. I have attached an installation video for your review.
