Review of Draw-Tite Ball Mounts 80248

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Draw-Tite Ball Mount. This is going to let you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle. The shank portion of the unit slides into the receiver tube of your hitch, and then the ball platform provides a 9 point for a hitch ball. Hitch balls are sold separately. The unit's made from a sturdy steel construction. It does feature a hollow shank, back here you can see that that's hollow and not solid. The unit's also going to feature a really nice black powder coated finish on it.

That's going to do a great job at resisting rust and corrosion, making sure that the unit looks good for a long time and that it lasts for a long time. You can use this in either the drop or the rise positions. Both are available to help ensure more level towing setup in situation. When you're installing this in your hitch you slide this portion in until the pin holes line up with the pin holes in the hitch. Then you secure it with a hitch pin and clip or a hitch lock. Those items are sold separately.

If you're in need you can find them at etrailer.com. The pin holes on the shank will accept a standard 5/8 inch diameter pin. The unit is designed for a 2 inch by 2 inch trailer hitch receiver. A few measurements to mention for you real quick. If we take a measurement from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the hitch ball, so what I mean by that is the hitch ball hole. If we measure center on center going from that point there to this point right here, that's going to give us a measurement of right around 9 inches.

If you're using this in the rise position it's going to give you a maximum rise of 9 3/4 of an inch. That's measuring from the inside top edge of the receiver tube of your hitch or the top of the shank to the top of the ball platform. Now, when using it in the rise position you're going to have a gross towing weight capacity of 3.500 pounds with a tongue weight capacity of 350 pounds, and you're going to have about 3 3/4 of an inch of clearance from the pin hole to the upright portion right here. You just want to be cautious of that because sometimes the outermost point of your vehicle can keep you from being able to use a mount in the rise position. What you can do, is you can measure from the center of the hitch pin hole on your hitch out to the furthest point away from the back of the vehicle. If that measurement is less than 3 3/4 of an inch then this is going to work perfect for you in the rise position up to about, looks to be right around 4 inches. Now, in the drop position it's going to offer a maximum drop of about 11 inches.

Again, from the inside top edge of the receiver tube of the hitch or the top of the shank to the top of the ball platform. When used in this position it's going to have a gross towing weight of 5,000 pounds with a maximum tongue weight of 500 pounds. Then the diameter of the hitch ball hole right here, that's going to measure 1 inch. That's going to do it for today's look at the Draw-Tite Ball Mount rated with a max capacity of 5,000 pounds in the drop position and 3,500 pounds when used in the rise position.
