Today on our 2006 Jeep Liberty, we'll be installing the Draw-Tite Hitch, Part Number 75128. This is what our hitch to look like once it's installed. Next, we'll go ahead and give you couple measurements to assist you in selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost edge of the rear spare tire is 9-3/4 inches. From the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is 15-3/4 inches. This will assist you in selecting accessories such as a drawbar, a bike rack or a cargo carrier.
Now, let's go ahead with installation. For this application, we'll need to remove the rear tow hook first. There are three attachment points for the rear tow hook. We'll go ahead and remove these bolts, exposing our attachment points for the hitch. For this hitch, they'll be a total of 6 attachment points, three in each frame rail.
Attachment points will need to be cleaned out because over time they build up with rust, dust, dirt and debris. So, using some spray lubricant and a half-inch nylon tube brush, Part Number 814092, will thoroughly clean out the threads of the weld nuts. Note: In extreme cases, it may be necessary to use a thread tap to clean out the threads thoroughly so that you can get the new hardware into position. Now we've got the weld nut cleaned out, we'll go ahead and take one of the new 12 millimeter bolts and thread it into the weld nut to make sure it'll go nice and easily. Now, with all the weld nuts cleaned out, we're ready to go ahead and install the hitch.
Again, we'll be using the hardware provided with our install kit, a 12 millimeter bolt along with a half-inch conical tooth washer. The teeth of the washer will face the hitch. Now, it's a good idea you'll need an extra set of hands to help to hold the hitch while you install your fasteners. Once install each fastener finger-tight, then we can go ahead and tighten them down. Next, we'll torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions and that'll complete the install of our Draw-Tite Hitch, Part Number 75128 on our 2006 Jeep Liberty..
