Question:
Hello, I have 2006 Toyota Tundra SR5, it comes with the towing pckg already. I bought part 43385 with 4 and 7 ways connection but i was able to install only the 4 ways since i have only one connection available, the square piece. Is there any way i can connect the 7 way connector and How please? Pictures would be great if you have some. The flat connector for the 7 ways is the problem and cant find any connection for it. I wonder if you have an extension or a converter or something. Thank you

I contacted our representative at Hopkins and he informed me that there should be another plug next to or near the square plug on your 2006 Toyota Tundra SR5 w/ tow package. There are a few scenarios as to why the plug is not there, but I did come up with a solution for you to have a 4 and 7-way connector at the rear of your vehicle.
The first possibility is that perhaps you overlooked the plug or it is tucked away just out of sight. There is also the possibility that your vehicle is actually part of production when Toyota changed the Tundra wiring. My representative at Hopkins informed me that the 2007 Tundra received a different wiring setup from 2006 and then was switched again in 2008. As we were discussing your wiring situation, we brought up the possibility that your 2006 Tundra may actually be a 2007 model. What you will want to do is check the build date, which is usually located on VIN sticker in door frame. If the build date of your Tundra was from October 2006 on, it may actually be a 2007 model. You will want to double check with Toyota to confirm this. If the production date is as stated above, your Tundra may have the 2007 harness, but Hopkins does not have wiring available for the 2007 Tundra model. Toyota then changed the wiring again for the 2008 model.
If you check again to make sure there is not another plug, you will have to wire your 2006 Toyota Tundra a different way. If there is not another plug, you would first need to install 4 Pole Harness, part # C59496, then you would need to connect and wire, Brake Controller 7 & 4 Way Installation Kit, part # ETBC7.
To connect your wiring, you would begin by wiring in part # C59496 to your existing tail light harness. You will want to use the included circuit tester to find which wire is for each tail light function. To test each wire function, you will want to have a friend operate the running lights, brakes, and turn signals while the vehicle is in accessory power mode and parking brake engaged while you use circuit tester. The Red wire of the Modulite will connect to the negative battery terminal via the included fuse. The White wire of the Modulite is the ground wire and will need to be connected to the vehicles frame. The Brown wire of Modulite will be spliced into running light wire. The Yellow wire of Modulite will splice into the Left turn signal wire and Green wire will splice into Right turn signal wire.
Now, for installing part # ETBC7, first you will begin by mounting the included bracket to the bumper or hitch on your Tundra and mount the 7-way connector into the bracket. Then, plug the 4-way of part # C59496 into the 4-way adapter plug on the 7-way connector of part # ETBC7. For the wiring, the White wire coming out of the 7-way is the ground wire, and should be attached to the vehicles frame. The Purple wire is for reverse lights, and can be taped off and tied out of the way if there are not reverse lights on your trailer. The blue wire coming out of the back of the 7-way will be connected to the White wire that is inside of the Gray duplex wire and will be ran up and connected to the Blue wire coming out of your brake controller. The Black wire coming out of the 7-way will be connected to the Black wire inside the Gray duplex wire and will connected to positive battery terminal via 40 amp circuit breaker. I would recommend wrapping all the connections that were made with connectors with electrical tape.
For an extension to mount your 7-way on the back of your vehicle, we have the No-Drill Mount Bracket, Long, part # C57202.
I do not have pictures of the installation of the wiring, but I have linked instructions for the 4 Pole Harness, part # C59496. I have also linked a video review of the Brake Controller 7 & 4 Way Installation Kit, part # ETBC7 that you may find as a good reference. Also linked is a video review over circuit testing wires and a brake controller installation on a different vehicle that shows the installation of part # ETBC7.
