Comparing The Convert-A-Ball Goosneck Adapter To The B&W Companion 5th Wheel Hitch

Question:
I have a Ford F450 pickup with a BW underbed gooseneck hitch installed. I bought the truck for the purpose of trading my travel trailer for a 5th wheel. The 5th wheel we are considering buying is a Jayco 42foot with a rating of 16,995 TGW. Im struggling with the decision of should I get the BW Companion or should I get a gooseneck adapter. I have an 8foot bed so I feel I will still have adequate storage even with the Companion so that is not a factor. Im looking first for safety and then ease of connecting and ride. The adapter is half the cost of the Companion but non-factor compared to safety and protecting my investment in truck and trailer. Side by side which is the best option for my application?

The Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter - 12" to 16" Tall - 20,000 lbs, # CAB-C5G, is a good adapter, but every adapter has it's weak points. They add unnecessary stress to your hitch and trailer frame and some manufacturers recommend adapters like this not be used with their pin boxes, but they do work well for the weekend getaway from time to time as long as the manufacturer approves its use.
The B&W Companion 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Dual Jaw - 20,000 lbs, # BWRVK3500-5W, is designed for use with your underbed gooseneck hitch and will give you a much sturdier connection to your trailer. This hitch isn't considered an adapter at all. This system gives you the best of both worlds allowing you to have a great gooseneck hitch and a great 5th wheel hitch. Unfortunately, that is where the cost difference from an adapter comes in because this isn't a make do conversion, but rather a well designed functional underbed rail system for a 5th wheel hitch.
No question, my recommendation for you is the B&W Companion # BWRVK3500-5W.
