Review of B and W Fifth Wheel BWRVK3500-5W

Today we're going to review part number BWRVK3500-5W. This is the B&W Companion Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch. This is a jaw design with a twenty thousand pound weight capacity. Now this fifth wheel hitch is design to mount in your truck bed so you can tow your fifth wheel trailer. It's a very quick simple installation. If you notice right down here in the very middle there is a socket post.

This will install in the ball hole of a custom under bed mounting kit which we do sell separately on our website. This is a rail free design which allows for full access to your truck bed when the hitch is removed, so basically when you pull this fifth wheel hitch out of the socket that that goes into then you'll have full access. There's no rails in the truck bed. You have full access to load your truck bed. Now this hitch does have the one inch thick dual jaws right here which will provide a three sixty degree jaw to kingpin contact. That will give you less rattle and more security than a lot of the slide bar jaws. It has this cam action latching handle which will help prevent binding.

It's very simple to release even on un-level terrain and it is lockable to secure the trailer to the hitch. We do sell a padlock separately if you prefer, but basically what you would do is remove this clip and then pull the pin out and the pin is attached to a chain so you don't lose it. Then as you'll notice this handle we just move back towards the cab of the tow vehicle. As you'll notice when we move the handle all the way back the dual jaws do open, so once your kingpin slides in here and goes up against the back of this it will actually push this handle closed and the jaws would wrap around there. Then once the handle is closed all the way, you just take your pin and clip or your padlock if you prefer, drop that through there, clip it and that will keep the handle from moving and keeps the jaws wrapped around your kingpin. It does have this fully articulating head which you can see goes front to back and the plate up here actually goes side to side so this fully articulating head will ease the hook up and helps limit chucking.

Now you can get improved cab clearance and that can be achieved. You can get four inches of front to back adjustment. Basically these pivot arms that this hitch head sits on right here can be mounted, when it's mounted to this base on the very side of the base on each side there's a multitude of holes. Depending where you put this pivot arm, you'll have four inches of front to back adjustment and also you can put them in three different coupler height settings, so these pivots arms can also be raised or lowered in one inch increments. There's three different coupler height settings. Basically you can do sixteen and a quarter inches, seventeen and a quarter and eighteen and a quarter and that would be the measurement from your truck bed up to the top of your hitch head here.

This hitch head actually sits on these pivot arms and on the top of the pivot arms that this sits on is the polyurethane bushing. Those polyurethane bushings will give you a nice quiet rattle free ride. If you'll notice on the base itself has a nice wide stance which offers strength and stability. If you notice on the side, it includes these two plastic foot pads and these basically would attach to the bottom of the base here, one on each end. They do have a shape to them so basically you would put them to match the corrugation in your truck bed. This attaches to that base and it will fill that corrugation to help create a better fit, so when you drop this down into your truck bed this plastic food pad will line up with the corrugation and fit in there and keep that from moving around. This is a two piece design which is for simple set up and removal. Just in case you want to remove this from your truck bed and you're by yourself, they make it easy to remove in pieces. Basically right here if you pull these pins, there's a clip here and drop the pin out. Pull this clip, drop the pin out over here. Then what you can do is these two handles right here, you just pull up on those and when you do that you can lift this whole hitch head off those pivot arms. By doing that, it's easier for one person to take that head off and set it aside. Then you can remove this whole base assembly. It's got handles here on the side that you can pick up and remove it. The two piece design makes a very simple set up and removal. As you can see, it's made of a high-quality steel, has a gray powder coat finish that will help resist corrosion. A few specs on this, it has a towing weight capacity of twenty thousand pounds. It has a vertical load limit or pin weight capacity of five thousand pounds and again it has the three different hitch height settings you can set it at anywheres from sixteen and a quarter up to eighteen and a quarter. Go ahead and put the pins back in. Go ahead and put the clips back in so we secure the hitch head to the pivot arms. That should do it for the review on part number BWRVK3500-5W. The B&W Companion Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch with the dual jaw design and a twenty thousand pound weight capacity. .
