Longest Rhino Rack Roof Rack Track Availability and Can Yakima Racks fit Them

Published 12/08/2016

Question:

comparing this RRRTS547 to the RT20 track I am looking for as long as possible, strong as possible and Yakima compatibility. Also my van does have a decent lengthwise sloping curve downward as you get toward the front esp approaching the top of the windscreen please confirm/comment to each point when possible, not just answer explicit Qs A Is this the longest track? the RT20 or other RT is not available over 85inch long? B Do both have the Yakima compatibility noted here ??https://www.etrailer.com/question-71634.html and here ?https://www.etrailer.com/question-77423.html ? - C load-bearing strength: 1 seems as though this factor isnt so critical using these naked tracks? of course the van is load-rated lowest, but also sideways/upward forces are relevant also 2 I am planning on using stronger rivnuts to fix to my roof like Ys Plusnuts rather than plain pop pop-rivets 3 as well if possible taking advantage of the existing reinforced mount point holes after I take off the factory rack rails but presumably 4 RT20 would have some advantage there? since RT20 is stainless steel not aluminum, as per http://www.etrailer.com/question-28748.html elsewhere states they ALL are aluminum? D Is it easier or harder to bend downward along the length to accomodate the roof curve without deforming the extrusion profile 1 with a single long track, as opposed to butting two shorter ones up against each other? 2 using stainless steel vs aluminum? Finally E any ideas as to WHY the instructions state the bolts on the ends should miss out on the washers going to the middle ones? sorry for the volume of Qs, thanks in advance!

I'll use your numbering for each of your questions so that they are easy for you to find.

A. The longest track is actually the part # RRRTS518 which measures 92-5/16 inches long.

B. These tracks are compatible with Yakima roof rack setups. The Landing Pad1 part # Y00221, the control towers, # Y00152, and crossbars, # Y00409 and round bar adapter # Y03536 would be what you need to install a Yakima rack in the tracks.

C. The tracks will be limited by the weight capacity of the rack installed in them which would be 165 lbs.

1. Roof racks are rated for vertical weight on them and not for upward forces which shouldn't be an issue.

2. The included rivets would be more than adequate but if you wanted to use your own rivets that wouldn't be a problem either as long as they are the right size.

3. We have no way of recommending how to incorporate the tracks to your factory flush rails.

4. All of the Rhino Rack tracks are made of aluminum.

D. Some flex is allows with these tracks but these aren't designed to bend sharply.

1. Going with two sections of shorter tracks would work great if the arc in the roof is at the same degree from front to back. If the roof is mainly flat in the back and then goes at a much harder angle towards the front it wouldn't be as beneficial.

2. Aluminum would flex much easier than stainless steel.

E. The directions you referenced are specific for a Toyota truck and would not be what you would want to use on your van.
