Question:

I have a 2007 Nissan Murano with a 4 pin connector installed. I need to convert to an 7 pin. After reading some of your installation guides, I understand I need to get part #30717 4 pin to 7 pin adapter. I also need to ground one of the extra pins, and run one to the battery to run 12V to the camper. I dont have a electric brake controller nor do I need one. My two questions are: -do I still need to wire the brake controller if I dont plan to use one? -How do I wire the lead to the car battery? Does it need to be part #10-2-1 or #10-1-1? I see I should install a breaker in that line. Is it best to install it near the battery or near the hitch? Thanks! Reece

If you do not plan on using a brake controller, it is not necessary to wire to one when converting your 4-Way adapter to a 7-Way adapter on your 2007 Nissan Murano. You can just cap off the brake controller wire on the adapter and safely stow it away. You can use the 4 Pole to 7 Pole Vehicle End Trailer Connector # 30717 as well.

To wire the hot lead to the car battery, you will need to run the power wire on the 7-way to the positive terminal on the vehicle battery. I recommend using the duplex 10 gauge wire, part # 10-2-1. The second wire will be used to run your ground to your battery's negative terminal. Although you can ground to your vehicle's frame, I recommend connecting directly to your battery whenever possible to ensure a proper ground.

You will need a 40 AMP breaker # 9510, which is typically installed in the engine compartment. You could also go with a wiring kit # 5506. Two additional breakers come with the kit that would be needed for installing a brake controller, if you decide to do that later on. I attached a demonstration video as well.
