Question:

I am looking to replace my trailer brakes on a 1974 Prowler 18foot travel trailer I been able to get the wheels off yet, but had a few questions- My trailer has lug bolts instead of studs- I am not sure the size of the brake shoes yet- the wheels are 5 on 4 1/2- I am assuming that they are 10 x 2 or so will the drums that i have fit assuming they are machinable How, i guess, interchangeable are the brake parts-

Helpful Expert Reply:

Your trailer hubs that have bolts rather than wheel studs will still be compatible with new electric drum brakes so long as 1) the brakes are of the correct width and diameter to fit your drums; 2) you select brakes of the appropriate rating for your axle capacity; and 3) they use the same mounting flange bolt pattern as the brakes currently installed on the trailer.

I linked the main page to show all electric drum brakes we offer. You can use the filters on the page to select your axle rating, brake size - such as 10 x 2-1/4, and your preferred brake type, manual-adjust or self-adjusting.

For example, for 10 x 2-1/4 self-adjusting brakes for an axle of 5200- to 7000-lbs capacity and with a 5-bolt brake flange pattern you can use # AKEBRK-7L-SA and # AKEBRK-7R-SA. Be sure to choose a left- and right-hand brake.
