Can this motor and the alum gear box be used for lifting a pop up camper top?

Technically it would be possible to rig something up to use a landing gear motor and gear box to raise and lower a pop up camper top. But the majority of them use some sort of winching system which is what I recommend.
Lately customers have been looking at small ATV winches, such as # CU122392, for raising and lowering pop up tops. If you go this route be sure to use a winch that has a brake for safety.
