Question:

Is this the right list for towing a 2004 Ford Explorer, 4 WD? Sterling Tow Bar Brackets 480-1 because I want the Sterling Invisibrake Kit / Part 155 - lights or wires to tie into the lights on the Explorer? Do both the Guardian and the Tow Defender work with that setup?

The Sterling tow bar # RM-576 is an excellent choice for flat towing and it is compatible with the base plates you have chosen for your 2004 Ford Explorer; # 480-1. Both the Tow Defender, # RM-4750, and the Guardian Rock Shield # RM-4000 can be used together with this set up.

The bulb and socket kit # RM-155 can be used on your Explorer. But the 4-Way end that normally would be mounted at the front of the vehicle would have to be cut off and wired to the connector that comes with the Sterling tow bar.

The InvisiBrake # RM-8700 can also be used on your Explorer. And if you go with the bulb and socket lighting kit you will NOT need the brake light relay which is sometimes required depending on the lighting kit used.

You may also need a high/low adapter to keep the tow bar level. I have linked a help article showing how to measure and a link to the high/low adapters we carry. Be sure to consult your vehicle owners manual for specific information on flat towing the vehicle. I have also included some helpful links to our series of help articles on flat towing for you.
