Recommended Flat Towing Parts for a 2026 Chevrolet Trailblazer RS

Updated 10/20/2025 | Published 10/19/2025

Question:

I am interested in buying a new Chevy trailblazer AWD /RS model and convert it to being flat towed behind my Winnebago Navion 2018D. I have your list of recommended installers near me. I would like your recommendations on which manufacturer’s gear to use for the towing plate and tow bar, and the auxiliary car braking system there are so many to choose from. Also- are there other items we should get for this flat tow? For example: some people have “rock/debris” shields with the flat tow what is your opinion on the usefulness/ requirement for that or other features? Thanks!

Hey John, congrats on the new SUV. Here are the parts you'll need to flat tow a 2026 Chevrolet Trailblazer RS:

Tow Bar and Safety Chains - etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar for Roadmaster Base Plates item # e74ZR

Baseplate Kit - Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit item # RM72EQ

Wiring Harness - Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles - 7-Way to 6-Way Coiled Adapter Cord item # RM-15267

Charge Line - Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles item # RM-156-25

Battery Disconnect - Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect item # RM-766

Supplemental Braking System - SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System item # DM86VR if your motorhome has hydraulic brakes or item # SM99243 if your motorhome has air brakes

High Low Adapter - The tow bar needs to be within 3" of level. If you measure the height of the inside top of the hitch receiver tube on your RV, and the height difference is more than 3 inches above/below the base plate tab height, you'll need a high/low adapter. I have linked a FAQ article that explains all this in more detail along with our selection of adapters.

As far as rock guard or shield goes. I like the Roadmaster Tow Defender Protective Screen for Towed Vehicles item # RM-4750. It's basically a giant net that covers your tow bar and prevents debris on the highway from being kicked up at highway speed and flying into your front end. It also works with other manufacturer's tow bars.

What type of braking system does your Winnebago Navion 2018D have?

Wow! Thanks for that quick reply. Our RV is built on a 2017 3500 Sprinter van chassis and has hydraulic brakes (fyi). Do you have any info on the need for the “rock guard”? It seemed to me that the majority of the people I have seen flat towing don’t have them.

@JohnC You're welcome! Thanks for the information! You're definitely going to want the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System item # DM86VR. This is a permanently installed braking system that activates with a flip of a switch. If you're planning on keeping your Trailblazer for awhile this is the best way to go. I think the Protective Screen for Towed Vehicles item # RM-4750 is a better option. The rock guards like item # RM-4000, item # RM82DQ, and item # BX8870 are manufacturer specific, meaning you have to have a Roadmaster tow bar and baseplate kit or Blue Ox tow bar and baseplate. The setup and break down is more complicated too.
