i am having difficulty sliding a new hose onto a coupling. whats the secret? I noticed the hose has a preattached fitting, now how do I get the other end of this hose to slip onto another fitting???

it depends on the fitting. On some, such as # CAM39144, the tube tapers down at the end so it is more narrow. Then you would sort of twist the hose back and forth while pushing it on. Once on far enough you would secure it using a clamp or, this the above part, a strap.
Other permanent fittings clamp or crimp onto the hose like the fitting that is already on it.
Some times it is easier to push the hose on when it is stretch and not bunched up so that could be another issue. Some soapy water will also make things a little easier.
