Just received the Dutton-Lainson 2500 lb winch. Should the gears be lubricated? thanks

I would recommend keeping the gears lightly lubricated for smooth operation. A light coating of multi-purpose grease like # L11316 would work great, although just about any grease you happened to have on hand would be acceptable.
