Is this the correct trailer hitch for the subject car?

According to Curte , their # C11497 Class I hitch is indeed a fit for your 2005 Impreza RS Wagon. The hitch has a 2000 lb towing/200 lb tongue weight capacity. I've seen references online that say the Impreza has a 2000 lb capacity for automatic transmission equipped models and 1000 lbs for manual transmission models. I'd urge you to confirm that for yourself with your owner's manual or Subaru dealer.
If you're planning on towing with the hitch, you'll need a few other items to complete your towing system:
Trailer wiring harness, part # C59236
Ball mount, part #3593
1-1/8 inch trailer ball, part # 19256 or 2 inch ball # 19258
