Question:

I, I have a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a factory 7pin tow package installed. I have a tekonsha voyager brake controller that i had in a 98 grand cherokee. What parts do i need to install the brake controller with my newer jeep.

The Tekonsha Voyager, part # 39510 will work well on your 2008 Grand Cherokee, and you will only need a couple other parts to complete the installation.

I recommend using part # 5506 to install your brake controller. The # 5506 kit includes duplex cable to run from the controller to the battery. The black wire connects to the positive battery terminal using the included 30-amp circuit breaker, and the white ground wire would attach to the negative battery terminal. The red brake controller wire connects to the brake stoplight switch located at the top of the brake pedal. The stoplight switch will have several different wires exiting it. You will need to use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 and locate the wire that only shows voltage when the brake pedal is pressed. Once you locate that circuit, attach the red wire to it.

You will also need to run a length of 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1 from the brake output circuit of the controller (blue wire) to the 7-way connector brake circuit(blue wire). The # 10-1-1 is sold by the foot.

Chances are you may need a new mounting bracket, part # 2178, for your Voyager. This comes with the mounting screws included.
